Temitope Onifade (Esq)

    Position: Senior Associate

    Temitope Onifade, PhD Law (2024), LLM-Energy and Env. Law (2016); MA-Env Policy (2015); LLM (2014); BL (2010) & LLB (2009),  is a lawyer with 15 years’ experience and expertise in business, energy, environmental and natural resource issues. He holds postgraduate degrees in law and environmental policy and has recently completed his PhD on the global transition to low-carbon economies, funded by several scholarships, including the Government of Canada’s highest scholarship, the Vanier Scholarship, and University of British Columbia’s top international doctoral award, International Doctoral Fellowship. He is a recipient of about 50 awards, grants and other recognitions from Oyo State Government, Government of Canada, International Bar Association, American Society of International Law, Canadian Law and Society Association, Association of International Energy Negotiators, non-governmental organizations and several prestigious universities, including Bristol, British Columbia, Calgary, Stanford, Columbia and Yale.

    Although working as a consultant, he has a permanent position as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the United Kingdom’s top 3 research-intensive law school at the University of Bristol, where he also serves as the Director of Master of Research in Sustainable Futures and the Pathway Lead for Sustainable Futures in the South West Doctoral Training Partnership in that country. He is also an affiliated Research Scholar at Canada Climate Law Initiative, University of British Columbia, and recently worked as a research consultant at Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative, University of Oxford. He Co-founded and served as a Coordinating Co-Chair of the Liu Institute Network for Africa at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and as an elected Senator at University of British Columbia. Previously, he drafted corporate social responsibility documents for clients in North and Central America as a research associate with Social Impact Firm in Canada, completed government projects as a policy researcher, and practiced law full time in Nigeria. He has also served on several government, business and non-governmental boards, including as an official delegate to the United Nations.
